Students graduate in four years not only with a high school diploma but also with sixty college credits and an associate's degree in the arts.

Lastly, “G” means genuine. Humanity classes are some of the best in the country. Athletics are very strong as well as the district provides a lot of funding.

Keep in mind that this environment in addition to being incredibly fruitful both creatively and academically, it can be perceived as a rose-colored, six-foot thick bubble, protecting its students from harsh realities beyond its walls. There's something there for everyone whether it is sports or the arts (which have become much more prominent in student life).Eleanor Roosevelt is a very rigorous and well-rounded school. I have learned to self motivate without competing with classmates and to treat every essay I write with the respect and eloquence of a novel. In your high school career at Bronx Science, you are bound to encounter some teachers that are harsh at grading, play favoritism, communicates poorly with the students, and simply don't know what they are doing. Overall, I recommend this school!I go to school with people from all over the world (specifically 22 different countries). And the teachers are wonderfully capable, intelligent, and empathetic—they're some of my best friends, insofar as a teacher-student relationship can constitute a friendship.Still, there are things that could be improved: for one, the institution values athletics far more than the arts, and it shows—the music/theatre facilities are housed in the old gyms, and the visual art classes are all in the school basement; meanwhile, we just poured tons of money into building a glorious new athletic center. Of course high school is stressful, but I got a lot of help when I could not do well in my classes. There is a great sense of school pride and all students are given tremendous opportunities for self-improvement and learning. The teachers are amazing and seem to really care about each student's success both in and out of the classroom. However, this school lacks in diversity in many aspects--racial, ethnic, financial, and social. Once I received a diagnosis - thankfully nothing too serious - the school continued to support me, while I received treatment. There are some cons, like the overpriced lunches. The food is okay...Syosset, for the most part, is a good school—it has all the clubs you could possibly imagine (over 100 I believe), & classes ranging from music theory to AP Physics C. It wasn't hard to distinguish the classes I liked & was willing to pursue, from the ones that I wasn't so keen on taking (sorry Ap Spanish!) Lastly, the school could definitely do better in terms of school safety since a lot of students take the subway to school. There are a ton of clubs and extracurriculars to choose from! Annual pep rallies and football games show our school's dedication to the spirit of Port Washington, and we love making our town proud!
