It reminded me somewhat of Lassie Come Home in the 40s but this movie was better and had more of a story to it. My son went through a phase of Lassie obsession and this is his and my favourite version. I didn't know before viewing this a few years ago that LASSIE COME HOME originally appeared in 1940, a hugely popular British novel about a depression era family in a Welsh mining town. As much about class divide and social injustice as it is about canine friendship, this moving and absorbing production - blessed with awe-inspiring photography, and particularly impressive performances from the dogs and the young lad, is bound to delight many parents and youngsters too - but be aware there is some gritty realism and plenty of tearful moments on route for all concerned! Hundreds of miles away from her true family, Lassie escapes and sets out on a journey home. I wasn't dissapointed. Couldn't be a simpler story, nor any more beautiful and tearful.
