I just rented this movie because I saw the trailer a few months ago and thought it looked intriguing. It’s a neat story where some extra dimensional beings are learning about humans by enslaving them and forcing them to raise a child. Maybe it was supposed to be?I wanted to like it so bad. At the end, the being does listen to music (something he did learn while being raised). Boxes of vacuum-packed food and long-life milk seemingly arrive out of nowhere, swiftly followed by a new born baby which soon grows into a creepy, screaming, voice-imitating 10-year-old.It’s an innovative, if somewhat overly equivocal vision that feels like it’s digging deep (in Tom’s case, quite literally) while simultaneously lacking any resonating feeling of profundity. Turns out, they don't. I like a film that makes me uncomfortable!Fuck yeah. And that little kid is a real fuckin' creep. While Vivarium does lose a tone of momentum when it hits the mid-way point, by the time it reaches its end, I can't shake the distinct feeling of unease I had to endure for over eighty minutes, and I can't deny that a film like this was an experience I have quite been exposed to before. Vivarium releases in the U.S. in theaters and on-demand on March 27, 2020. Also, I was a bit frustrated with the ending of the film. Vivarium is now available on Digital and VOD. Poor plot, scenario is unexplored. Seen it a couple of times now and lean toward the Hell/Purgatory/Demon theory myself. To each their own! In case you were confused as to what happened, and what's up with the boy, we've got the ending explained. Lizard people!But nothing is resolved or explained. The "artistic narrative" that everyone (critics/reviews/wiki) is giving this film, are that of a metaphor for “the suburban trap we live in is hell” . The kid turns into the next agent as we could see from the moment the kid is seen (or in the trailer if you watched that).Having to explain literally everything on your own is no fun.
