I experienced first-hand the impressive work that the College is doing with young people in Newham. When I came across the parent governor vacancy, I immediately thought it was an opportunity for me to give back something to the community by my contribution. I found that the College was indeed living up to its mission as a successful learning community, with skilful and dedicated staff who were a pleasure to work with and students who were vibrant, creative, sometimes challenging and always with lots of potential. The college offers a wide range of courses , from entry level through to level 3 vocational and academic programmes. The closure of schools and the cancellation of exams is something none of us were planning for or expecting and understandably has caused great anxiety amongst many students.Making decisions for your future can be very overwhelming. Currently I work for FCA leading financial management for the IT division and doing MSc in Regulation and Compliance.I am passionate about education and see the importance of post-16 education for younger generations progressing to higher education or employment. I'd like NewVIc to continue to be the sixth form college of choice and improve its reputation even further and ultimately develop happy and successful young adults, being able to build on their knowledge gained at NewVIc. ...
