While this book has many great stories, it is what it says on the cover. I am a huge Ted Lindsey fan. This book also talks about how the game was way different back then since there were fewer teams and teams could be stacked since there wasn't any form of a salary cap. Far exceeded my expectations.
read a story and take another break. Without doing proper reading about what the book was about before buying it I expected all of the stories to be about Gretzky's career. All told, an absolutely great book! If you are sick and tired of the typical ego-maniacal professional athlete, read this book for a breath of fresh air. Wayne Gretzky narrates the story mainly talking about exciting stories and games that he played that makes you sit on the edge of your seat to see how it all panned out. "This has all happened so quickly in the last three weeks, but as time goes on here, we'll spend more time in Edmonton," he said. We work hard to protect your security and privacy. I think that would have been especially useful for new fans who may not know some of the names and where they came from. I absolutely loved this book - it starts with some amazing stories from the old history of hockey, most very interesting and heartwarming - it appears to me that Wayne Gretzky found a way to mention every single great old star of the game along with many current stars too. I understand the intent was to make each chapter separately readable, so one did not have to read the book cover to cover to understand what was going on. It has been an exciting 99 years and with that the hockey greats are always present.
When I was fourteen or fifteen years old, I’d head down to Canadian National Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, pay a buck, go to a Blue Jays game, and then walk around the Hockey Hall of Fame just staring at everything for hours.

We listen to it on CD in the car; so inspiring.
On top of that very few of us even had skates.
My favorite anecdote ends the book, where Wayne describes his grandmother tI'm not really a hockey fan but Gretzy's passion for the game makes it universal. Thought it might be just a chronicle of some of his most memorable career moments. We are new to hockey, but our family loves it!
All told, an absolutely great book! And of course the book is filled with a robust cast of great players, from the NHL’s original superstar, (SPOILER ALERT) Howie Morenz, to Gordie Howe, Gretzky’s teammates and contemporaries, and the influx of great Russian and European players.
I loved this book! Gretzky obviously did an amazing amount of research to fill his book with so many interesting stories.
The best parts of the book, in my opinion, were the insights Gretz gave into the current state of hockey and his opinions on the changes being made to the game.
