I truly believe this to be one of the great New Zealand films.It was special to see this halfway through a really bad week, and on 35mm no less.Putting a Pacific spin on one of those small, quirky community films the British do so often (and, slightly less often, so well), this is a legitimately funny comedy that manages to play for the mainstream while maintaining enough ethnic identity that your maiden aunt will not only enjoy the film, but feel proud she's seen something so exotically foreign.Charming performances and some genuinely funny scenes and dialogue make up for a pretty light and fluffy storyline.Classic boys need to become men story in order to go to their bro's wedding with an island twist.
But that's not the point with "Sione's Wedding".
Their existence, whilst happy and peaceful; is unconventional.
